Farouk Systems’ Danielle Bucco-Regazzi Shares Chignon Styling Tips

What’s been the most popular hairstyle of the award season that happens to also be the most classic, and sophisticated of all? The chignon. And with the anticipation of Oscar night building, all bets are on that we’ll see the style again. According to Farouk Systems‘ Creative Artist Danielle Bucco-Regazzi, Hollywood’s starlets are donning a much more natural look on the red carpet than we’ve seen in the past. “I definitely think we will be seeing a lot of soft, loose curls with little volume – hairstyles that look effortless to pull off,” says Bucco-Regazzi.  She adds, “Expect to see low chignons, tousled side pony tails as well as looser braids with a side-swept bang. The hair on the red carpet looks as if the celebrities styled themselves, which is great for consumers who want to emulate the look at home.”

Such a hairstyle isn’t reserved only for the red carpet, it’s a look that can be pulled off easily for ‘everyday chic’.  Here are some tips of how to style your own chignon.

How To Style A Chignon

Step 1: Prep the hair with a dime-size amount of Farouk Royal Treatment Pearl Complex from mid-shaft to ends. Curl the hair using the 1” CHI Digital Ceramic Orbit Curler.

Step 2: Using the top of your head as reference, section your hair into 3 sections from top of your head to behind your ears on both sides, leaving the back loose.

Step 3: Gather all your hair from the back section slightly off center and create a ponytail.

Step 4: Starting at your ends, gently roll the top half of the ponytail up into a “pin curl.” Secure with bobby pins on both sides.

Step 5: Repeat step 4 with the bottom half of the ponytail, but roll under instead of up.

Step 6: Gently smooth the left side section with your fingertips, pull back and lace around your two secured section. Pin underneath.

Step 7: Gently smooth the right section with your fingertips, pull back and twist. Lace around the two secured sections and pin underneath.
